5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance.” 6 And the close relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.” 7 Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel. 8 Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he took off his sandal. 9 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. 10 Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day.” (Book of Ruth 4)

Ruth is a inflitrating agent of immanentization, componentized. The field of Naomi, immanence: but componentized, encapsulated, rendered monadic. Rendered capital.

What is the nature of this transaction? Ruth is alienness, adopted by Israel. As alien, she embodies differentiation (like Hajar before her), an agent currency, like a computer virus: Ruth’s capital, Ruth is capital. And, accompanying this field (a virtual phallus/yesod), she is negotiated, negotiable, between the traders.

When a trade arrives, it needs to be confirmed. Not as a sign of witnessing in a valuative, legal sense of a witness. But, rather, in the sense of a computational confirm, an automatic repeat-request protocol (the sandal), on receiver and deliverer ends. This confirmation protocol is the precedent to the actual settlement of the trade. Why a precedent? Because it is an agreement of terms and conditions, a formation of beginning and ending, a before and an after: the protocol’s ACK is the phallus (basis, yesod, signifier) that permits transmission and settlement of the trade to occur.

The counterparty to the trade (the relative) is the shell, across which there is inheritance/reincarnation/karma (there is an inheritance/karma of the shells). The coordinating party to the trade (the husband) is actually a proxy broker. Because, while seemingly an inner cloak/garment, protective of the agency of Ruth (the wife/capital) — it is in fact her lineage that is transmitted. The impossible karma of gnosis. For the husband, here, is proxy, pure impossibility. The husband is hijab, impossibility:

So she answered, “I am Ruth, your maidservant. Spread the corner of your garment over your maidservant, for you are a close relative. (Book of Ruth 3:9)

In contrast, the wife, rendered phallic and generative, is possibility: tangible capital, expressed, confirmed, settled.

And through this process, David/Kingdom is born.

13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him. 17 Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “There is a son born to Naomi.” And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 18 Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron; 19 Hezron begot Ram, and Ram begot Amminadab; 20 Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon;[e] 21 Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed; 22 Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.


Fieldnote #1: Getting some perspective

The nature of life is such that there’s always a tendency to get emotionally involved in the activities that we find ourselves engaged in: whether working as a clerk, a teacher, a director, a housewife, a political activist, someone going down the cornerstore to purchase some milk, etc.

What do I mean by emotional engagement? I mean an embodied, non-cognitive, reflex reaction to the stimulus being projected before your eyes, the input sent into your head. Colleague acts up and you feel tense, riots on the streets of London and you feel edgy, UN doesn’t act in what you consider a just manner so you feel angry, just burnt the roast so you feel upset, want tea so you feel need for milk, etc.

And when faced with a sensory overload of input, emotional engagement also typically goes into overload with the net result being a distinct lack of happiness.

At such times, it is important to get a grip. If you stand back a moment, you will see that the activities into which you have been thrown constitute a particular game into which you have been reincarnated. A flesh game – known as your current life – played out on the hardware of your body, society, workplace, home, cornershop, etc. But one game in a bifurcating rhizome of interlinked games, through which your soul passes. What we call a soul token through the cosmic business process workflow (or, if you like, a piece on the monopoly board of reincarnation).

The only reason why your soul token is currently located/housed within this juncture/game/location/embodiment is so that it can acquire wealth – not material wealth, but spiritual wealth, the wealth of Divine gnosis, living the living God Allah. This knowledge is ultimately a borrowed loan, because there is no knowledge/banker but the Knowledge/Banker – however, the goal is to reconcile our scattered debts (indirect debts, mediated through the matter/shells of intermediate banker-images/taghut) into a direct, single mortgage of the cosmos.

And getting a grip is important, because it’s the way in which you can receive your dividend of gnosis: by understanding the trope of the game before you, the activities into which you have been thrown, by grasping the meaning behind the metaphor that God is currently playing into your head … And when this meaning is grasped, you gain power over your current reality, with the ability to hack the stone of your throwness to release the waters of your authority, flowing, not in stasis.

Getting a grip does not mean turning away from the context into which you have been thrown — it does not require you to become a monk — unless, of course, you have found yourself incarnated in the “being a monk” game. It just means moving from the embodied, reflex response, to a spiritual response. Or, to inverting the definitions, shifting from a symbolic/material response into reconstructing a Body/Tree with limbs that will act according to their True Function, projected (running up and down) into matter.

A side effect of this is that you will find yourself happier in your current location on the workflow/monopoly board, because, whatever currency that dividend is received in, it always takes the form of a theophany of Love, to be individuated into your own beatification/reconstruction of your soul stairway (the construction of your own unique straight path to God Allah). Because Love is all that is, was or ever will be …and the becoming an individuated path is slavey and messaging to Love.

Slavery and indirection

Narrated ‘Aisha: ‘Utba (bin Abi Waqqas) said to his brother Sa’d, “The son of the slave girl of Zam’a is my son, so be his custodian.”

So when it was the year of the Conquest of Mecca, Sa’d took that child and said, “He is my nephew, and my brother told me to be his custodian.”

On that, ‘Abu bin Zam’a got up and said, “But the child is my brother, and the son of my father’s slave girl as he was born on his bed.” So they both went to the Prophet.

Sa’d said, “O Allah’s Apostle! (This is) the son of my brother and he told me to be his custodian.”

Then ‘Abu bin Zam’a said, “(But he is) my brother and the son of the slave girl of my father, born on his bed.”

The Prophet said, “This child is for you. O ‘Abu bin Zam’a, as the child is for the owner of the bed, and the adulterer receives the stones.”

He then ordered (his wife) Sauda bint Zam’a to cover herself before that boy as he noticed the boy’s resemblance to ‘Utba. Since then the boy had never seen Sauda till he died. (Sahih Bukhari)

The slave girl is a subordinate plateau of your selfhood/world/life. This aspect of your life exists in potential with respect to immanence (reception of Prophecy). A “boy” is the idealised product: ideal gnosis, the product of marriage.

The hadith deals with the fragmented, scattered version of this ideal. It considers its own indirection: the prison of its indirection being the awful trope of civil laws relating to slavery of the 7th century, subverted here. There hadith does not legitimate civil slavery, it subverts the laws of slavery, treating them as a metaphor for indirection, for fragmentation, for scattering of truth into the matter (slavegirl) of your situated habitus (7th century or 21st).


Because the slavegirl is not married: and her consummation exists outside of marriage and outside the household that possesses her. Prophecy does not unite with this plateau directly: instead, production of truth derives from intermediate (apparent) interaction with the Others (habitus, social situation, that which exists externally to the house of your selfhood).

This product is apparently in the custody of its father and the uncle: but they are intermediate (apparent, false) versions of Harun and Musa. (As it has been written — Safiyah/Shekhina, wife of Prophecy, is the daughter of Harun and the niece of Musa.) Intermediate, apparent, false versions of the diamond dialectic mate and relate with your throwness (into a 7th or 21st century prison of power/language gaming), yielding an indirect truth.

Indirect truth is still truth, not by telecommunication, but by Grace of God: its ownership belongs to the real you, the real household, as it moves, wheeled, trans-temporally along tracks of gilgul/reincarnation.

And so the son (next incarnation) of the slavegirl’s owner inherits the child, the indirect truth, Gracefully acquired.

How is this truth Gracefully acquired? By mention of the Prophet’s wife, Sauda bint Zam’a: by the ritual of her veiling before indirection. That is, her veiling before the boy is the indirection, fragmentation, ironic misprison of the truth (boy) contained (indirectly) in this hadith.

The hadith is her veiling, the boy’s truth the product of the Self ironically mated with an external, apparent, temporary tribal habitus of (a profoundly unfair) 7th century civic law.

The ummah gestapo

Censorship is intrinsic to the religion of Islam. This is often under the guise of “helpful brotherly correction”, but may also be the general idea of “da’wah” to the “ignorant” or of more mystical concepts of spiritual “ranks”, where one soul is conceived to be more developed than another. I suspect (though have no historical anthropological evidence) that stems from Islam’s martial roots and also the earlier caliphates that pre-empt (and are the origin of) our Western, value-driven world — societies formed around power, mastery and slavery, teachers and students, judgement orders, military, business, familial, spiritual ranks.

In response to numerous requests from Muslims and Sufis (the ummah gestapo), I have taken this blog off of Google search (seems to be taking a while for this to filter through) and removed my “What is Sufism?” video from youtube.

Besides links from other sites and direct recommendations, these appear to be the primary conduits of traffic into my site — numbers have dropped and hopefully will continue to do so as Google filters through.

I have also added a disclaimer to the site’s “About” tab. In response to further requests, I have also changed the subtitle slogan of the blog itself — from “Wear a righteous garment to prayer!” to “A non-denominational, non-Muslim, non-Sufi, unauthorized, strictly personal view of the Reading”. I hope these actions are sufficient to make clear my position.

My position is:

  1. I respect the gestapo’s cultural right to wear their leather and jackboots and to embody their tribal habitus of health and fitness regimes, marching up and down the square before the Führer, etc.
  2. I have no wish to dislocate them from this tribal habitus. If I thought I was a tailor before, selling clothes for the ummah: that was my grand delusion. That concept would be an act of colonial violence on my part and its final awful conclusion, in fact, ends in my joining their unit and putting on the Darth Vader mask. And I’d prefer not to go down like that.
  3. I have a personal reading of “my” scriptures — it is personal view, unauthorized by the discursive multiplicity of Islam — my reading is unrelated to any traditional order, school of thought, scholarship. It is completely unrepresentative of the “Straight Path” — if there is a resemblance it is accidental.
  4. I continue to make the blog public because it is awkward to password protect individual entries — when I want to read them from different devices and sometimes share particular posts with friends.

I’m not trying to teach/preach/disseminate information anything to anyone. I am not a teacher. I believe that education = a hidden power game, always = latent fascism.

I quit the teaching profession for the private sector and have no intention of returning.
